The Groomsport Village Association has recently been in correspondence with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), Ards and North Down Borough Council, and local representatives regarding concerns over the future of the mature street trees along Main Street.
Following reports of pavement damage and pedestrian safety concerns, DfI has confirmed that the removal of eight of the nine trees is currently being considered as the preferred option, although no final decisions have yet been made.
The GVA believes these trees are an important part of Groomsport’s character, environment, and award-winning village appearance, and is continuing to advocate for solutions that protect both public safety and the long-term future of the trees wherever possible.
