The GVA Big Lunch event was held on Sunday 18th June 2017. We were favored with one of the warmest days of the year and a large crowd attended and participated in the afternoon's activities.
People brought and shared items for lunch. Tea, lemonade and coffee were available in the refreshment tent.
The under tens were given materials and shown how to plant sunflower seeds. There is a competition (in 3 sections) to see who can produce the tallest sunflower plant; the sunflower plant with the widest head and the sunflower plant with the most seeds. This competition will be judged in the autumn at the GVA AGM. All entrants to the competition will be awarded a certificate.
Later in the afternoon, the crab fishing competition got under way. This proved extremely popular with everyone. This year we had larger crabs than last and the winner with 20 crabs was Lucy Moore of Springwell Crescent. Jason Angus won the adult crab catching competition. Prizes of £100 for the crab competition was donated by Kevin Baird, Manager of Quay Marinas Bangor.
The day finished with a tug of war with all participants being given chips or icecream by Gabby's Good Food Bar at the harbour.
Finally, everyone got a delicious piece of GVA Big Lunch cake and tea or coffee. You can see how well this looked with the GVA logo in icing, in the photographs.
Altogether a most enjoyable day for the local community.
